Matthew Swanic M.D. is a native to the Las Vegas Valley. He graduated with honors from the University of Nevada Las Vegas with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. He then went to the University of Nevada School of Medicine to obtain his medical degree. He was elected Class Treasurer his first year and went on to be class Vice President for the remaining three years. He was actively involved on the Curriculum Committee and volunteered his minimal free time to the Student Outreach Clinic providing free medical care to patients in Reno.
Dr. Swanic excelled academically and received numerous awards including Biochemistry and Pathology Student of the year awards. He graduated at the top of his class and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor society in his junior year (one of only 2 students.) His accolades did not go unnoticed and this allowed him to pursue his residency training in Ophthalmology at the prestigious Tufts Medical Center in Boston Massachusetts. Knowing that he wanted to return to the West Coast, he then completed his fellowship in Cornea, Refractive Surgery, and Uveitis at the world renowned Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. Jules Stein Eye Institute is internationally known for elite eye care and is consistently ranked the #1 eye center in the Western United States by the U.S. News and World Report. It should come as no surprise that Dr. Swanic is Board Certified in Ophthalmology and actually scored in the 99th percentile on his written boards placing him in the top 1 percent of ophthalmologists in the country. Despite these credentials, Dr. Swanic is very down to earth and always tries to place patients at ease. His number one goal is giving you the best vision possible.
