More About Las Vegas

Las Vegas is the biggest city in Nevada and 26th largest city in America. According to the 2020 census, the town’s population is 644,594. It is located in Clark County in the desert climate of Nevada. The Los Angeles and Salt Lake railroad connected Las Vegas to all the major railroad networks in 1905, paving the way for incorporation in 1911. As infrastructure began to develop in the area, construction workers found entertainment on the city’s only paved portion: Fremont Street, filled with casinos and show lounges. The Hoover Dam building brought in countless workers and caused the growth of these businesses to erupt. Starting in the 1940s, resorts began to pop up around the town. A native of Las Vegas himself, Dr. Swanic is proud to provide clearer vision in the town in which he was born and raised.  Whether you are a Vegas resident or here for tourism, LVEI is here to serve your vision correction needs. We’ve had people make a trip of it taking a Las Vegas vacation where they come to get LASIK, stay in a Las Vegas hotel, and enjoy the city with their brand new vision. Among the city’s well-known attractions today are the Strip, the Fremont Street Experience, the Strat tower, and the Motor Speedway. Check these sites out with your new vision from LVEI!

Las Vegas Geography

Nevada is the third most seismically active state in the United States, after Alaska and California. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), there is a 10–20 percent chance of an M6.0 or greater earthquake occurring within 50 kilometers (31 miles) of Las Vegas in the next 50 years. Many grass, trees, and other greenery may be seen around the city. Because of the scarcity of water, there has been a push to promote xeriscapes. Scheduled watering days for residential landscaping are another aspect of conservation initiatives. A program that examined and forecasted growth and environmental implications until 2019 was financed by a grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency in 2008.

Las Vegas Climate

The climate of Las Vegas is subtropical hot desert (Köppen climatic classification: BWh), which is typical of the Mojave Desert. Long, extremely hot summers; warm transitional seasons; and short winters with mild days and cool evenings characterize this environment. With an average of 310 sunny days per year and brilliant sunshine for 86 percent of all daytime hours, there is plenty of sunshine all year. Rainfall is sparse, with an annual average of 4.2 in (110 mm) spread out across around 26 wet days. With extraordinarily low dew points and humidity levels that sometimes fall below 10%, Las Vegas is one of the sunniest, driest, and least humid places in North America.

Vegas Universities and Colleges

The main higher education facility in the city is the College of Southern Nevada (the third largest community college in the United States by enrollment). The University of Nevada School of Medicine, which has a campus in the city, and the for-profit private school Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts are two other options.
