What is included in the LASIK price at Las Vegas Eye Institute?

At Las Vegas Eye Institute, we are committed to bringing our patients the highest quality of LASIK in Las Vegas.

As such, we only have one price for LASIK  and that price gets you the very best technology we offer. Our LASIK is one price, and that price is all-inclusive, meaning that we don’t offer various packages, and you won’t be surprised with any fees after the procedure. The idea that we would offer tiers of service as if some people deserved excellent outcomes while others only deserve mediocre outcomes seems absurd to Dr. Swanic.

At Las Vegas Eye Institute, we strive to provide a premium LASIK experience that includes transparency in pricing. We do not want people to find out after the fact that any additional services they may need to get the optimal visual results are not included in the price they paid. At Las Vegas Eye Institute, our LASIK price for all patients includes:

  • Wavefront Guided Excimer LASER treatment utilizing the Contoura with iris registration platform, a special tool that helps us tailor LASIK surgery specifically for your eyes (also known as Custom LASIK).
  • Femtosecond LASER flap creation with the Zeiss Visumax 500 kHz platform.
  • Enhancements of all procedures (Wavefront Guided if appropriate) for the first two years if needed (We have a less than 5% need for  enhancements due to the high accuracy of the Contoura platform.)
  • Punctal plug placement, if indicated, to alleviate temporary eye dryness.

Your LASIK or PRK procedure with Dr. Swanic includes all pre and postoperative visits (up to 1 year), any enhancements that may need to be done within the first 2 years, and treatments for temporary dryness that may accompany the procedure.

Some people wonder why we don’t offer “lifetime” enhancements. The reason is that myopic LASIK is incredibly stable. Most LASIK enhancements are done for unexpected alterations in healing and are usually performed within the first 6 months of the procedure. They are not typically done for progressing nearsightedness as most eyes level of nearsightedness has stabilized by the time LASIK is performed. If someone’s prescription changes five years after the procedure, we want to see them to find out exactly what is occurring to help them. For instance, if someone were to develop a cataract, LASIK enhancement would not be the appropriate course of action.

What kind of LASIK is included in my procedure?

Our LASIK procedures are always high-resolution wavefront-guided  treatments with the Contoura system, so you know you are getting the latest in excimer Laser technology. Everyone gets wavefront-guided treatment. The only exception is patients where wavefront-guided LASIK is absolutely the best treatment for their situation (usually patients who have previously had cataract surgery). You can also rest assured that we won’t use a blade to create your LASIK flap. All of our procedures are all LASER, using the Zeiss Visumax 500khz technology to create the flap.

What is Contoura LASIK?

Contoura LASIK, officially known as Contoura Vision Topography Guided LASIK, represents an advanced form of LASIK surgery that incorporates detailed corneal mapping to enhance the precision of the procedure. The technology creates a three dimensional topographical map of the  shape of your eye and a map of how light travels through your eye. This guides Dr. Swanic and the excimer laser, as your cornea is reshaped to the exact specifications of your unique set of eyes.

What is not included in the cost of my procedure?

Unfortunately, since we are not a dispensing pharmacy, we cannot provide you with the eye drops that will be needed for your procedure. Fortunately, we do work closely with many manufacturers and can usually provide valuable money-saving coupons to help with the cost. As of the writing of this post, the cost is typically about $40 for the steroid that treats both eyes and about $30  for the antibiotic drop, for a typical total cost of $70.

What is the LASIK Provider’s Cost to Perform LASIK?

As you consider the price a LASIK practice is charging for LASIK, remember there are several components of the LASIK provider’s cost to perform LASIK:

  • The cost of the Femtosecond laser (the laser that creates the flap) $200,000 to $400,000 depending on features and capabilities.
  • The cost of the Excimer laser (the laser that reshapes the cornea) also $200,000 to $400,000.
  • “Click fees” paid to the laser manufacturer each time we perform a procedure, typically around $200 per eye.
  • The cost of the surgeon (and his/her years of training).
  • The cost of postoperative care.
  • The cost to run the practice, including overhead, staff, and facility costs.

Staying up to date with the latest LASIK technology costs more than a provider who is willing to use older technology. At Las Vegas Eye Institute, Dr. Swanic is committed to using only the most advanced technology available.

I’ve heard crazy low prices advertised sometimes in Las Vegas. Are these hugely discounted LASIK prices real in Las Vegas?

You can find companies advertising LASIK at lower prices, but these ads are usually bait-and-switch promotions.

Discount LASIK practices charge more for add-ons which result in a much higher cost of LASIK than the price that was initially quoted. As soon as you walk into a discount LASIK provider’s office, the add-ons start accumulating and the price starts to increase. Often, these are procedures where a blade is utilized to create your LASIK flap. Companies can offer slight discounts for bladed procedures as blades are far less expensive to operate than modern femtosecond lasers. Don’t believe ads that promote $299 per eye or even $995 per eye. You won’t pay that amount.

We refuse to compromise our patients’ vision. We only perform advanced all-laser LASIK at Las Vegas Eye Institute and are a premiere LASIK center in Nevada.
